How to create a summary form in access 2010

I have to create a summary form from a detailed form. The detailed form has records for doctors and I have counters for certain alerts. On the summary form I should accumulate the alerts. However, the two forms have separate record sources. Not sure how to handle that.

Create 2 separate forms and then put the detail one in the summary one as a subform.

I am really having a hard time with this... I need the summary form to have one record for each provider and the counts, while the main form will have all the details. I'm not sure how to accomplish this. I have the fields on the main form. How do I get them on the summary form with the totals? Thanks for your help.

You don't "get them on the summary form" from the detail form. Create the reports separately. Then use the subform control to put the detail in the summary.
