Label printing problem

I have set up a query and a report using label wizard so that I can print the address details of the current record when viewed on a form. This works fine until I actually need to print:
The printer I'm using is an Epson LQ-300, printing on continuous-feed labels (Avery 4013's I think).

The problem I've got is that the following text is printed before each label:
@EJL 1284.4
@EJL

The address is then printed but is followed by approx 30 blank labels.

So I need to know:
1. What the above text means and how I can get rid of it. (It does not appear in the print preview).
2. How I can stop the blank labels.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Hard to diagnose from a distance, but did you try the mailmerge from MS Word to create labels and check or the same characters appear ?

Yeah I tried that and the same thing happens. It prints labels fine from the DOS database we've got but as soon as I try to print from access or word all hell breaks loose.

I think it is the driver but not sure what to replace it with.

If I remember correctly, this old workhorse has been around basically since the dawn of time! I'd be willinging to bet, from the facts you've given, especially regarding it not printing correctly from Word, that the driver you currently have installed doesn't support Windows, or least not today's Windows. Before I tried anything else I'd go to the following site and download the latest driver and see if that fixed the problem:

http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/s...oType=Overview

Good Luck!

Thanks Linq, I'll try that out and get back to you.

re: Label printing problem

New drivers have been installed and the error code is no more! :-)

However it is still printing the blank labels but as far as I can tell this is an error within the label wizard. It just does not seem to recognize continuous labels.

I'll have to use sheet labels on the laserjet instead.

Thanks.

Glad you got the problem resolved! To be honest, I was amazed that the old workhorse Epson LQ-300 was still out there! Even more amazed that Epson is still marketing it! This was my very first printer, back in the days of DOS and 20 mb hard drives!

I don't think they are still marketing it. The printer was here before the office was built! :-)

I've also worked out why there was only one label per page when using label wizard. On the page set-up the bottom margin was set to over 200cm. I've adjusted this and all the labels are now showing on one page.

However, the label wizard can't seem to grasp the concept of continuous labels. It even prints the blank space between pages throwing all the labels out of alignment! A real pain. I would strongly recommend using sheet labels.

Again, thanks for your help.

Actually they call it the Epson LQ-300 + II now, but it's still being sold!

Just out of curiosity, did you know that Access Help has an extensive file specifically for using dot matrix printers to print labels? If not, fire up Help and enter
Create mailing and other types of labels for a dot-matrix printer
and have a read!

Good Luck!

Yeah I did have a look but to no avail. I'm going to cut my losses and go with the laserjet I think.

re: Label printing problem

hi,
problem is Error @EJL 1284.4 for printer
Ok. This might be something that may, but probably will not, fry your printer... So do it at your won risk...

There should ba a .GPD file that came with your drivers... Find it in your WINDOWS directory (it's in some subdirectory, not root WINDOWS)... After you find the file, open it in notepad... Do a search for "EJL"... Then delete the string in question form the line you found it in... Save file... Try to print... (Maybe do a backup of the file before you save it)...
It worked for me... Will it work for you?

And for everyone, the file you should edit called : ESCP5D.GPD
In Win XP, it should be located in directory of \Windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86
