Running MS Access 2003 on a Mac

I am designing an MS Access database for a small operation that uses Macs exclusively. Eventually I will be publishing to the internet so it won't matter but I want an interim solution so they can run it on their Macs.

I know that it's possible to take an mdb file and compile it into an executable (.exe). Will that run on a Mac?

It's not exactly an exe it's know as an mde file and it requires access to run. You can get a runtime library to run files on PC's without Access but I'm not aware of a solution for Mac's. That doesn't mean there isn't one. Maybe someone else will know.

Hi

No, I'm familiar with the mde file and that wasn't what I was referring to. When developing for people who don't have Access on their computer you can use a third party tool that changes the mdb into an executable that can then be given instead of the source code. The benefits are 2-fold: they don't need microsoft office and they don't have the source code.

Sorry, this is what I meant by the runtime library. I'm just not aware of one specific to Mac's.

not sure i understood your question right, but its called CrossOver for mac. It will allow oyu to install window apps and run them as native. MS office is explicitely supported.

you can dload it as a 60 day trial. If ya need more, buy it for $60....well worth it
