Mundane A97 Workgroup Administrator question

When you open the Access 97 wrkgadm.exe, should it show the workgroup
that you are currently using? When I join a workgroup, then close and
reopen the workgroup administrator, it always displays system.mdw.

Thanks.

Something is wrong then. When opened it should show the workgroup that you
currently are joined to (your default).

Do you have multiple versions of Access installed on the one PC?
Access 2000 would reset the A97 workgroup file location to
C:\System32\System.mdw each time you switched between versions. I'm
not sure if the problem was fixed in later versions.

MishKa has details of the problem and a fix at -

re: Mundane A97 Workgroup Administrator question

Thanks. I do have A97 and A2003 installed on this machine. I just used
the Workgroup Administrator to join a customized .mdw file, then opened
and closed A2003. Workgroup Administrator now shows that the .mdw I
assigned has stuck.

I have been fiddling with shortcuts that specify an .mdw file. Not all
of them have worked. Perhaps a failed attempt to assign an .mdw results
in the reversion to SYSTEM.MDW.

When you have mutliple versions of Access on one PC you pretty much have to
abandon the practice of opening an MDB file by double-clicking it. You need
to open the desired verison of Access and then select the file to open from
inside Access. When non-default workgroups are involved then you need to
create shortcuts that explicitly specify the Access executable, the mdw, and
the mdb.

Thanks, Rick. I'm aware of those factors. I was having trouble getting
the shortcuts to work
