CollatingOrder - Help file incorrect ?

The help files allege that whilst existing fields have read-only
CollatingOrder,

"You can set the CollatingOrder property of a new, unappended Field
object if you want the setting of the Field object to differ from that
of the Database object that contains it."

Has anyone actually been successful in doing this? My code complains
it is read-only.
