URGENT--PLEASE HELP

Fields in my forms show as "Error#" and back end file will no longer
open. Access asks if I would like to repair the database to which I
click "OK" but it then tells me that my file is not a database or
cannot be repaired. What happened? What can I do? Thanks for your
time.

re: URGENT--PLEASE HELP

Daniel,

This is just a guess!

It sounds like someone opened the database file with something other than Access
and then sved the file in that software's format (with a different extension
other than .mdb). Try navigating to your database file in Windows Explorer and
see what the extension is. If it is something other than .mdb, try renamining
the file and changing the extension back to .mdb.

Go to Tony Toews site at
http://support.microsoft.com/default...ent/secfaq.asp
and look through the articles concerning corruption.

Thanks. I wish the problem was that simple to fix. I've to repair
and compact. I get the dreaded "Could not find description field"
message after Access tells me that my database is not a database and
that it cannot be repaired. Do you think that I run into any problem
copying over my back up copy over the network/corrupt file. Will my
back up become corrupt?

Make a backup of your backup and them try it. Nothing ventured - nothing gained.

Do you get that "Could not find description field" message a lot?

Have you reviewed ACC2000: Table Corruption After Referential Integrity Checks -
296389 http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=296389 "CAUSE
You may experience this behavior with a table that has a self-join and Memo fields,
and has referential integrity enforced. "
