Default FYI: Scalability

Just to let you know some status on "is PHP ready for big sites":

My current project went "live" last week, and we just got some log-files
back from the client to analyse for the next "performance release". The
log was of a single dual-xeon server under zend performance suite with
PHP 4.3.2 and Apache 3.2.?, using only SSL connections. The apache is
set up to only log requests to index.php, but it also serves all images
and static files.

For the 4 days the log covered, the server had around 2 million
(index.php) hits per day, topping around 50 hits/sec at prime time.
(This is one server in a farm of 30 load balanced boxes, so its about 60
million hits per day total. We're expected to double that throughput
during the performance tuning until january. I think we can handle that
too).
