download script that changes file extension

i have a website with mp3's that my proxy at work doens't allow the
downloads.
is it possible to come up with a php download script that changes the
file extension before submiting it for download?

Yes. You can give any name in the "Content-Disposition" header
<http://in2.php.net/header>
