Corrupt Table Problem

Our Access 2003 database (which had been converted a year or so ago from
an Access 97 database) contained one major table which suddenly
developed about five records which had clearly become corrupted. The
five records contained "Chinese" looking font. The corrupted records
were deleted and the database repaired and compacted several times.

However, today we found that a form, which had worked perfectly well for
several years was unable to be edited as the underlying query was not
updateable. The query consisted of a join between two tables, one of
which was the table previously containing the corrupted data.

After several hours of trial and error it was found that if the front
end was connected to an older backup copy of the back end data, then the
uneditable form became editable again. Obviously, relationships were
broken, the corrupted table deleted, the back up copy table imported and
the data copied and pasted back in. On recreation of the relationships,
all was working again.

Is this a problem which has been encountered by anyone else and can
anyone suggest a better way of repairing a corrupted table when the
corrupted data seems to have corrupted the structure of the table itself?
