Default Changing Tab Index of Form Controls

A2003. This is driving me daft and from google, and, I see, others in
the past as well, in versions of Access from 97 to 2003.

I'm trying to change the tab index of controls on a form. Actually, for
the moment, on one tab of a tab control. I've tried:

* straight renumbering;

* starting by number what I want as the last control as 0 and working
backwards

Neither of these seem to work. Each time a new tab index is given to a
control, Access seems to renumber everything, seemingly at random, or in
a pattern I can't discern.

Tab index is important, both for users who are keyboard navigators
(versus the mouse) and also in terms of what receives the focus after a
text box, combo or whatever is populated. Short of adding an on lost
focus event that directs what the next active control is, has anyone
found a means to successfully change tab indexing to what they want?

I've never had a problem just going to the tab control I wanted to
order, clicking properties for any control, selecting tab index,
clicking the build button and drag and dropping the control names.

Tim,
The first control gets number 0!
You can work forwards. (well I can here ...)

Also drag and drop will work as rkc mentioned.

Well, well, well. Embarassingly enough, like the gibbering idiot I am,
I've never, ever noticed a build button. Thanks very, very much for
pointing that out. I just looked at it now. How in the blink did I
ever miss that build button, anyway? I'm going to play with it and I'll
bet it solves my problems.

Thanks very much.

Thanks Arno, I tried that way, forwards and backwards. Rkc's build
button, which I'd never realized was there, looks like it will do the trick.
