What I do is set the background to transparent, then behind that control
have another textbox with a controlsource e.g.:
=IIf(<condition>,"gggggggggggg","")
or something like that, you'll have to play with it, but basically what
you want is the block character from the Webdings (or was it WingDings)
font, with the textbox locked, disabled and sent to back it will like a
background (hint: use the control's foreground property). This works in
any version of Access.
