Default Javascript compatibility help

Can anyone point me to a site that gives a good (basic) tutorial on writing
JS so that it runs in multiple browsers?

I have a web app that's been targeted for IE 5.5 but need it to work in
other browsers such as Mozilla.

Things I've noticed are HTML lines like <div class="divwithborder"
style="width:600px; height:351px;left:20px"> - in mozilla the "height"
attribute seems to be completely ignored!

many thanks for any help

harry

Gecko broswers like Firefox focus on implementing to standards. IE
implements standards plus a bunch of proprietary stuff. Many people
find it best to do development work in Firefox then test in IE.

The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) web site http://www.w3.org/ is a
good source of information. They have validators for html and css.

I recommend the book javascript: The Definitive Guide by David
Flanagan.
