Default Two column layout question

I'm in the very early stages of designing what I hope will be a two
column (menu+content) layout. I hope that the menu column will
remain fixed in other than MSIE browsers while the content column
changes depending on what menu item is called.

I've found several templates to look at, but none of them as far as I
can see gives examples of pages which will be called into the content
column. All my attempts so far at designing such a page obliterate or
write over the menu column.

Can anyone point me to an example I can study? Or tell me what to do?

Regards, Alex

Do you mean you don't want the menu to move when the visitor scrolls?
There are ways to do this, but I wouldn't recommend it for your first
design.

For your multiple pages, you only replace the content text, and leave the
menu code in place on each page.

Here's a template I made for a friend. Feel free to snatch it.

Choose your own colors, of course. <g> They are all set in the style
sheet.

Many thanks, I have downloaded it and will play around with it until I
understand it.
