Well I've been thinking about things and although support for columns
is coming its still not good enough I reckon, so I've got a suggestion
that I wanna run by everyone and see if it gets you thinking too.

Its quite simple really, how would you like to set up content regions
on your document, have them appear wherever you want (although keepin
them in a logical format is better for your visitors) and all you'd
have to do is stream (dynamically or however you chose) your content
into one region and as it spills over (or overflows) during rendering
it leads into your next designated content region ?

My idea is to place content into one named region (span, div or
woteva) that you've set height and width to, then when your content is
too much for that region it flows into the region you've specified it
to do so to, possibly using the overflow attribute.

What do you people think ?

Sounds like book columns to me. Don't do it. Web pages are not read like
a book. Plenty to Google for.

depends on the type of content your presenting and the audience, i
happen to be in the group that ignores block text in favour of nicely
laid out content, if i have to scroll down a page to read a lot of
text then it loses me.

This idea came to me when I had a design spec for a page that had a
column layout where it only went half way down page on one side and
all the way down on the other, the content being providing for this
layout was dynamic as well so I had to write some server side code to
work out the averages, split the text into two and print it inside my
two separate containers
