Hello
I've been studying a page I saved from the net.
It's made up entirly of small gif images in in frames. No text
It seems to be a fastidious method of creating a page. is there an
advantage.

I thought you meant frames i.e. each gif was directly loaded into a
separate frame and the page itself was just a complex frameset. That
would have been interesting. But you meant tables and we've seen
loads of pages built this way before.

Advantages? No.
Imagine the hassle of updating that page with a new nav item, or
adding a special news flash.
No alt attributes so the page is one big blank to search engines,
screen readers, etc.
And the waste of bandwidth caused by using all those images - 92kb for
a home page is too much.

You can be certain that anyone who *can* see the site will see it in the
font you choose, and it avoids people ruining your design by increasing the
font size to make it readable.

Advantages:

Slow load on dialup connections (though this page fully loaded in about 60
seconds, I was amazed)
No way to resize text on most browsers
Next to impossible to modify content later

Seriously, the only advantage is that you can use the Web in the same way
you use print media, thereby not having to learn all the wonderful things
the WWW has to offer.

Advantage? (1) Complete, total, absolute freedom of design.

(2) Fun challenging the css experts to duplicate it.
