I've never run it myself (don't use windows), so I can't comment on that.

I think someone recently wrote up his experience. Check the w3-validator
archives at lists.w3.org - it'll be this month. I don't know how good
the writeup is - since I don't use windows, it's of no use to me.

On Linux you have a wider choice of validators. If you go for the W3C
one, download a tarball, not current CVS. Other options include:
- the WDG validator, another Perl script (
http://www.htmlhelp.com/ )
- mod_validator, an Apache module performing validation, and offering
much better XML support than the other options

- validator-lite, a simple desktop option and probably the easiest to
install on Linux (
http://www.webthing.com/software/validator-lite/ )
Any of those should be portable to windows, but that's not my field.
