Default W3C Validator Local installation on Windows

Hi !

I'm wondering if anyone successfully has managed to install the W3C
Validator on a Windows operating system.

If so , can you please give me som hints ?

Best regards

It's been done, but it's not easy. Grab Björn Höhrmann's OpenSP build for it.

For an easier job, you might prefer Liam Quinn's windows desktop validator
from arealvalidator.com.

Of course, if you upgrade to Linux or BSD you'll have a far easier job.

Hi again !

Thank you for a quick answer.

If I understand right arealvalidator cant validate for instance .asp or
..aspx pages since it not connects to the webserver and validate the result
from what the .asp page pulls out.
It seems that it only validates traditional html-pages.

Any installation document /webpage on the windows platform ?
Or maybe "A dummies guide installing the W3C Validator on Linux" , sadly to
say but my knowledge on the Linux platform is limited.

Best regards Pär

Please learn to use your newsreader. Don't post upside-down.

I've never run it myself (don't use windows), so I can't comment on that.

I think someone recently wrote up his experience. Check the w3-validator
archives at lists.w3.org - it'll be this month. I don't know how good
the writeup is - since I don't use windows, it's of no use to me.

On Linux you have a wider choice of validators. If you go for the W3C
one, download a tarball, not current CVS. Other options include:
- the WDG validator, another Perl script ( http://www.htmlhelp.com/ )
- mod_validator, an Apache module performing validation, and offering
much better XML support than the other options
( http://apache.webthing.com/ )
- validator-lite, a simple desktop option and probably the easiest to
install on Linux ( http://www.webthing.com/software/validator-lite/ )

Any of those should be portable to windows, but that's not my field.
