Default Cannot Close Geocities Web Site

Several weeks ago I asked Yahoo / Geocities to close both my e-mail account
and my web site. However, something went wrong and Geocities closed only my
e-mail account. Therefore, I can no longer sign in to my Yahoo / Geocities
e-mail account and I can no longer amend or close the web site. I asked for
the web site to be removed because it had gone out of date and we decided it
was too time consuming to keep it on internet.

I have e-mailed Geocities almost every day for several weeks now, but I
usually get an automated reply that is not in the least helpful. I am now in
the position where I have a web site that Geocities has kept on internet and
that I cannot in any way deal with. I have even written to abuse@yahoo.com
and told them that it is an abuse of my rights to keep a web site on
internet against the wishes and explicit instructions of the authorised
webmaster. However, this only generated yet another unhelpful automated
response. I have gone through the suggested procedure to reactivate the
e-mail account and supplied the correct information. However, this only gave
the response that the e-mail account has been removed and cannot be
reactivated.

I would be most grateful if anyone has any suggestions on how to deal with
this problem.

Regards, Rob

Er, Dude, try reading what the OP wrote before you hand out insults.

I was in a similar situation a few years ago: Geocities changed my
password when I changed my e-mail address, but the new password
never reached me and I could not get any human to take an interest.
It was almost two years until the seriously out-of-date Web site
disappeared. VERY frustrating! Yahoo bought Geocities about a year
after this happened, but I had no better luck trying to contact
someone at Yahoo.

You might try e-mailing your "neighborhood coordinator" or whatever
that position is called. They are not Yahoo employees, so they don't
have any ability actually to fix anything; but you might get lucky
and yours might know somebody who could fix the problem.

Which is why having such a website from geocities/yahoo sucks.
They don't give a shit.
As I said, get a domain name, find a cheap host and be in control all the
way.

Yeah, he 'gets it' now. He's asking for help getting this account closed,
and I'm sure he'll never mess with Geocities again.

Here's a thought...get a @hotmail account and send out 1000s of spams
advertising your Geocities URL! I bet it gets shut down then!

....okay, I never said it was a GOOD idea. ;-)

That's certainly one way to do it, and if Geoshitties, I mean Geocities,
actually takes the site down after that, yet doesn't respond to a
legitimate request from the site owner, something is horribly wrong.

Thanks for these suggestions, I will probably have to take legal action to
have the site removed. Does anyone have a street address for Yahoo /
Geocities that my lawyer could write to. The "help" that I have been offered
from the automated responses from Geocities is dependent on my being to
login to my e-mail address. However, because this has been cancelled and
Geocities cannot seem to reinstate it, I am in the hopeless position of not
being able to gain access to my own web site, quite bizarre really! Because
the site receives about 5 hits a day, it is unlikely to be closed down due
to lack of activity and the lack of my logging in to amend it. It can be a
serious business if a website is not amended for changes in circumstances, I
wonder if Geocities realises this? Surely a human should respond when this
is clearly asked for in my e-mails.

Regards, Rob

I believe this is the e-mail address to hosting support... this I believe
you don't get an automated response from... but they may have changed. I
did have a phone number but I cant find it at the moment... sorry.

hosting-support@yahoo-inc.com

Hope this helps anyhow
