Default IP Address

Hi everyone!

Here is a SIMPLe question, but not so simple of an answer!

Where is my IP Address stored? I mean physically stored! Is is assigned by DHCP onto my harddrive somewhere or is it kept on the switch of my network? I know I can change it but going to ipconfig but...

Physically? Where is it stored?

Thanks a million!

Hi

IP Address probably is stored in Windows registery or LMHOSTS file (it resides in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc )

check here -

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces

each NIC on the pc will have a subkey, just check each one till you find your card and you will easily see the DHCP / IP settings

If you use DHCP to assign the ip adresses on you local network, then you can change settings in the router/switch, DHCP can assign ip number in two or mor ways.

To enable port forwarding I think you need to set static IP, that means that for ewery MAC adress of the network card you have a IP numbber on the switch thats is assignd to that computer(MAC adress). So if you swich cabels/networkcard you need to change settings or something.
