text doesn't float around it (tested FF 3 / linux), looks like positioned over the background text (text outside #page).

Thanks, Dormilich. Hmm, Strange. Seems to be working on this end as intended in FF/3.0.1 XP and Mac FF/3.0.1 on OS X 10.4.11.

Same problem on re-load in Linux?

maybe I should clarify the problem, the div itself is centered but if I put text around it (see code) there's no floating in the float sense
<p>background text...</p>
<div id="page">
</div id="block">
<p>floating content</p>
</div>
</div>
<p>more background text</p>
just tested it in FF 3.01 / MacOS 10.4.11—just the same

It is a simple question. Is the float centered rail to rail or not?

I only asked if the float was centered horizontally. No more. No less. Your additions to the test are of no interest.
