Default How does image/photo rights work on the internet?

I've looked into things like iStockphoto and I'm guessing "if you don't design it, you have to pay for it". Is this true? I'm building my own web page. Do I need to purchase other peoples photo's and images for my site? A site is usually pretty boring without any good visuals...

I am having more than a little difficulty understanding your question (s). I suppose you could buy a digital camera and use the photographs you take for visuals. A site with visuals may be just as boring as one without visuals. The handling of content determines quality: nothing more; nothing less.

There are some free images available on the 'net. You can check out Flickr but there are many others. I can't give the links right now. But, if you aren't specifically given the rights then you must pay for them and/or request permission to use them.

It works the same as for any other content on the web.

Is it copyrighted (it's by defaul most of the times) the use is restricted. Does it have any other licens follow the guidelines in the licens.

Maybe some images like low resulution images of cd/movie/game-covers may be used as 'fair use' USA law thingy.
