Default Accessing Shared folder on LAN

Hi

While accessing shared folder on the local network, it was possible to access the folder by just entering the workstation IP in windows explorer - and the shared folders will show up.

From today, when the workstation's IP address is entered, a dialog box comes up asking for User Name and password.

Why is it now asking for user name and password?

if i enter that pc's local account username & password , i can view the shared folders but i dont want the PC to ask for userId and passwords like this.

Please help?

thanks

uhm, something must have changed since those two times;

did u upgrade the router perhaps?

if the folder is on a system, did you upgrade the system since then, because vista has many more security features than xp?

thoroughly check the networking settings, especially the tab that says sharing on the selected folder your having trouble sharing.

and just google too...something like 'authenticated shared lan folder xp'
