Vb-app: Winsock And Xml

Hi everyone! I need to develop a client / server program using Winsock. I want to create my own communicating protocol between client and server. I want to send commands to the server and tell what to do, and I want to save this protocol into a xml template. I don’t know where to start, can anyone give me e little example???????
