Default social network development

Hello Guys,

Social network platforms are really hot these days and I'd like to
build one for a small to large scale community. I need your help in
finding a opensource social networking software, one that is free. I'd
prefer to program in PHP and MySQL. Are there any software that you
have used that will allow me to build these social network website ?

Thanks,

Thanks,
i've used socialengine (http://socialengine.net/) for a project about
a year ago - the code costs about $120 and has alot of features that
will get your social network up and running. i was using v1.4 and
upgraded to v1.7 - i believe the latest version is 2.0. the code is
written very well and uses Smarty as a templating engine, also the 2.0
uses OO - previous versions were procedural. there are lots of plugins
for socialengine for blogs, albums and what have you. If you are after
a whole lot of features you should also consider using Joomla as it
has a huge community of developers with a tonne of features you can
install with minimal development time.

PG Social Networking Software will suit your needs. Though, it's not free
either.
