CSS Problem - correction to URL

As for your problem, that the content text moves vertically below the
menu on the left in all but IE7, I can't reproduce that. In IE6, FF2,
and Safari 3.1.1 on Windows, the text is always to the right of the
menu, as I presume you want. So I don't see the problem.

Except, erm, for the aesthetic cruelty it does to me. ;-)

OP does not define quite what text he is referring to but perhaps he
means the text beginning "Welcome to the CANDOER Web site". And he wants
the top of the nav links to line up with this. But it is not clear if he
really is prepared to accept the logo things taking up so much space up
top or whether he wants those flags and things to float off to the
right. All possibilities are easy enough but it needs to be made clear
what exactly is wanted before anyone spends time on it.

I received an e-mail direct from a John - he told me to add the line
display: inline
to my CSS so I was able to correct the problem of it not displaying the
menu and
the flags and globe along side it. Now the problem is that it should show a
flag,
CANDOER Retirement Group, and then the flag again with the rotating globe
below
that and then Communicators AND Others Enjoying Retirement below the globe.
It displays that way in IE and Netscape, but in others the menu is narrowed
so the
hover does not show "Go" and the display is off balance and not the same
as in
IE and Netscape.

and (2) my viewport is wide enough. Since the last "fix", the page
content resizes to match the viewport (which is a Good Thing).
Previously, everything just overflowed to the right when I narrowed the
browser. The flag-CRG-flag line now wraps below certain widths.

Likewise in my IE6, FF2, and Safari Win. I believe its been there for me
in all browsers ever since I looked at the OP's page, even before he
first "fixed" it. The menu has to be a certain minimum width for it to
appear, though.

Its function is to confuse visitors by looking like a submit-type
button, as if they need to move the mouse to click right *there*.

I know that MacIE had it so you could turn off looping, iCab too. In
Preferences (Mac equivalent to Options I suppose?), so it is part of the
main deal.

IE6: Ah, yes, I see it now; it's a simple five-click process to turn off

Can't find anything of the kind in my WinSafari, though.

I just obtained Safari yesterday, and I like it, although it takes some
small bit of time getting used to the Apple way of doing things.

FYI, you don't need the extension to stop gif animations. You can turn
them all off permanently in browser prefs, which does make the web a
nicer place. :)

Your right it really has no function, so it has been removed.

Changing it to a background image if it remains an animated GIF is *not*
stop the animation. You can use some utility like IrfanView to extract
one cell from it, that would stop the spinning....

I may not have made my self clear on that - I am not going to change it
to a back ground image, I am going to remove it and put the background
image I am using on the site as the new graphic, but I will use the darker
image of the Eagle so it will stand out.

I have IrfanView on my computer, will try your suggestion of extracting
one cell. I have never attempted that before.

I tried that. I just don't know enough about CSS to make it work.
Without the using a frame, the text that is below the menu kept
moving up along side the menu instead of below. So I put the
frame in it to control the display. I know it is not proper mark-up
but it was all I could figure out to get it to display below the Menu.

I am sorry, I misunderstood you. I extracted the frames on the gif with
IrfanView and did not like any of the frames that I got. So I went with
the eagle. The eagle goes better with my background colors and theme
anyway!

I thought you were talking about the HTML mark-up where I used a frame
around the text ( <table) to control its position.

I agree with your assessment!

I first make up this web site with very little knowledge of HTML and
"borrowed" a lot of mark-up and graphics from other sites. My only
knowledge
came from a book I got at the library. Over the years I have learned a few
more things, especially lurking here and reading suggestions and
instructions
to others. But will probably never have the "professional" knowledge that
you and a couple others have here. So, I appreciate the help and input!
