Lost VB6

Question posted by: mwulfe@yahoo.com (Guest) on June 27th, 2008 04:16 PM
I recently lost my VB6 installation due to a system crash. I still
have the program files, and I have the serial number. MS no longer
has the replacement CDs. Is there any way I can reinstall?

So your system crashed, and that wiped out your install CDs? Damn. That
must have been one hell of a crash.

I don't have a solution but I really admire the problem.

Re: Lost VB6
No, Auric, I lost the CDs years ago. Your post was so helpful, thanks
for the waste of time. Go back to sleep.

Truly spoken as someone who has never had to move home (much less
internationally).

I've moved eight times in the past ten years (not to mention being
bounced around by the military before that, and more than a half-dozen
moves as a child). Two of those eight moves were involutary, one was
after only 24 hours' notice -- AND I STILL HAVE MY ORIGINAL VS6 CD
SET. (Hell, I even still have the *box* they came in.)

I'll admit that I've never moved internationally, but moving from
Virginia to California (which I did) is probably about the same
distance as moving across all of Europe (and I've made similar moves
several times), with the only real difference being the lack of
Customs & Immigration, and the fact that I could reasonably expect the
local languages in both places to be roughly the same. (I *have* been
around the world, carrying roughly 100lbs of my belongings with me...
but that falls under the category of "getting out of the navy" in my
head, not "moving".)

Final note: when I move, my hard drive goes with me in my backpack,
not in boxes and/or luggage that's handled by people who don't care.
The computer can be easily replaced; the info on the hard drive, not
so easy.
