OK, first of all: What exactly dou you want?

Possibility a)
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. PC                  Laptop
  2.  |                       |
  3.  \/                      \/
  4. ------------------------------
  5.           Internet
  6.
  7.        Virtual LAN
  8. -------------------------------
  9.
Possibility b)
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. PC--------LAN---------Laptop
  2.  |                       |
  3.  \/                      \/
  4. ------------------------------
  5.            Internet
  6. -------------------------------
  7.
or Possibility c)
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. PC---------LAN---------Laptop
  2.  |
  3.  \/
  4. ------------------------------
  5.            Internet
  6. -------------------------------
  7.
Depending on that, the solutions would be quite different.
If you want (a), there's a program called Hamatchi, that's supposed to do that.
If you want (b), both systems need two network devices.
If you want (c), the PC needs two network devices and you have to do some setting up. For that, we'll have to know your Operating System (probably some Version of Windows) and what you have so far.

Greetings,
Nepomuk

That's a great question for Google, Yahoo, and Ask.com. I'd recommend starting there, and attempting it yourself, then coming back with a more specific question. It's not possible for me to compound all the information out on the web into one post for each person who wants a tutorial. They are out there, ask Google for them. Google will be nice to you, I promise.

Put 2 NICs in your PC and connect one to the internet and the other to your laptop, you would need crossover cable and that way you can share files.

Now regards the internet, microsoft allows you to share internet between 2 PCs i cant remm the exact setting, put just google it and you'll find it easy. But you will need 2 NICs in your Desktop or which ever one will be connected to the internet.
