Hi all,

What are all the common problems or major issues a DBA can
face?
what are all the catagories in which problems arise in db2..
that can help to log a call to DB2 admin...

Getting staff to read manuals and go on training courses.

For a general flavour, you could try reviewing the archives of this
newsgroup

- Dealing with show-stopper lock situations.

- Fixing tablespaces which are in various sub-optimal
states after more or less failed LOAD operations.

- Helping users getting the EXPLAIN facility to work.
Why does this have to be so involved (setting up
special tables, and - it seems - giving them
rather broad permissions before the EXPLAIN
facility works properly)?

- Helping users install DB2 client software on their
PCs.
Adding databases/nodes to catalogs (why is this
annoying task needed - why can't db2cc be asked
to perform connections to databases which haven't
been catalogued?).

- Performance-related tweaks (bufferpools, etc).

- Fixing tablespaces which turn out to be of the
wrong type (e.g. with an unsuitable page size, thus
not allowing for large tables; this problem is
supposed to be less of a problem with DB2 v. 9).

- User additions/deletions/permission-adjustments.

- Helping users restoring data which have been
lost by accident.

- Regularly checking db2's error-log, and regularly
checking that backups really went well.

- Storage planning/re-organizations/additions.
