Default Vertical positioning of css popup list & How about the IE mess?

Hello,

The new design of my band's website is finally coming together. I think
it looks very nifty (especially the menu) and it perfectly validates.
Hooray.

I still have a problem though with the positioning of the css popup
lists. Horizontally was simpel because they are positioned absolute,
but I cannot come up with a solution to finetune (I want the popups
slightly higher in relation to their parent "li") the vertical
position. Anyone?

My biggest problem however is IE. Although the html and css are valid,
IE totally messes up the structure. I knew IE was buggy, but I didn't
know it was *this* bad O_o
Can anyone point me in a direction on how to overcome this mess? I
googled a bit and found some hack, but or they don't work or I apply
them incorrectly. One hack I found was to create a fake body by means
of a div and set some properties on that.

Anyone out there already uses IE7? I wonder how that copes...
