Default Reports

I am sure this is an easy question for most people, but I can't seem to
figure this out. I am running a report and would like to count the
specific number of people with a given status. My report lists 248
people that I work with, and their statuses are either Temporary or
Active. How do I create a count function that will give me only the
active employees at the end of a report. Here is the expression I have
been trying to use, but it has been unsuccessful.

=Count([EmploymentStatus]="Active")

In the Report Footer:
Assuming the datatype of [EmploymentStatus] is indeed text and not a
Check Box or other Number datatype:

=Sum(IIf([EmploymentStatus]="Active",1,0))

If, however, [EmploymentStatus] is a Check Box, then:
=Abs(Sum([EmploymentStatus]))
