What is your position on advertising in this group?

Does permitting one poster to advertise, license us all to advertise?

Shall I advertise? Shall I create 5 pseudonyms (refreshed every couple
of weeks with different newsreaders and helos so that your kill file may
not be so useful) and we, all 6 of us, shall write in separate posts,
"Contact me ... my rates are cheap ...?"

Will you like a group where such is happening?

Will you be bothered by the numerous and repetitive advertising posts?

Will you be as willing to share your knowledge with me if you know I am
trying to make a quick turn over of it for profit?

Will sincere people who want sincere answers continue to seek those
answers here if they are responded to with a deluge of advertising?

What do you think of my new sig line?

Did you say too many lines? ... OHHHH!

Got a quote through advertising from a regular here? E-mail it to
info@ffdba.com. If it seems genuine and we have time to do the work,
we'll do it for 75% of the quote, to be donated to your local animal
charity (nada for us). Are we any good? Search Google for "Lyle
Fairfield" and decide. Look at http://www.ffdba.com/portfolio. Take the
ESO tour at http://www.ffdba.com/eso.htm.

Are you associated with an elementary-middle school? We have a new time
table program (http://www.virtualtimetable.com) and are currently beta
testing. Want to join us? E-mail info@virtualtimetable.com; tell us
about your school.

Hi Lyle,

I firmly believe advertising is just 'not done' here.
[color=blue]

No-one here has a 'licence' to do so, no matter how many posts.

I still love this group. I am glad to answer, glad to ask.

I might be bothered indeed ...

No, but you could change identity and I might 'accidently' share with you again.
(It is no fun checking headers ...)

Some people bother, some people don't, I guess.
I am however, very sure that nobody *needs* the adds to get the help they need/want.
Some sigs are very 'inviting' if one seeks payed help ...
IMO there is absolutely no need, nor justification to add "contact me ...."

I need some more time to decide (take position) on this one ;-)

To all:
I am very surprized that until now nobody did respond. This message is almost 20 hours 'old' now (in my reader)
Are we waiting ?? Are we afraid ?? Does nobody care ???
Or are we just 'sick and tired' of this ???

Wouldn't you know! The same little wimp trying to make himself into a big
man is at the top of the list of this ludicrous post just as he is at the
top of XMVP's Access Morons list!

I think a lot of people didn't reply because they didn't want to see yet
another flamefest. I didn't personally think your message was at all
inflammatory, but apparently from the reply you got, not everyone agrees.

Hmm. Is this Lyle or Donnie impersonating Lyle?

Did you change your attitude, Lyle? Don't I recall your giving me a hard
time about posting responses to unsolicited advertisements, just "gentle
admonishments" referring to the FAQ?

I encourage you to complain to the ISP and news server of those who are
violating the rules and charter. Since you and Mellon's sockpuppets made
such a big thing about my warning the posters, that is what I do -- no
warning, just a polite complaint, requesting "appropriate action".

And, yep, those SIGs have too many lines. The various RFCs seem to top out
at about 6, though I prefer even fewer.

Have a great day. Glad to see you coming over from the Dark Side of the
Force, finally.

Larry

There's an FAQ? Where abouts? :)
