Default What is the N in front of the string?

When I'm writing query statements in Access it adds an N in front of my
strings. What does this denote?

I assume you're using an ADP.

It's a casting identifier for SQL Server:

'Hello' is taken as varchar
N'Hello' is taken nvarchar (unicode)
