Help.
I am a bit flummoxed by the problem of how to transpose "normalized" (in the
database sense) data records into columns of for a data entry form, and then
back again when the user is finished.
My previous solution to this was to filter by query or SQL for the
observations for a particular set of criteria, then go through the resulting
records and assign them to a non-normalized work table containing ONE RECORD
with the rows x variables strung out in their own columns, then draw that up
into the data entry form, which was really just a grid of textboxes
hard-wired for a set matrix of the rows x columns. This appears to be too
inflexible for the current plethora of species (rows) that needs to be
recorded currently.
So, I am looking for a sensible way to transpose columns and rows of numbers
and text (which means cross-tabs won't help). If you have you mucked around
with arrays or had any experience in dumping it all out to an Excel
spreadsheet for the transformation and sucking it back in, or any other
insights or ideas, i'd like to hear about it.
