Linking to an HTML table on a Server

Question posted by: Todd Matson (Guest) on November 12th, 2005 01:56 PM
I am trying to use Access 2000 to link to an HTML table on a web server.
When I use File / Get External Data / Link Tables and I enter the URL for
the web file, I get the error

'http://.../orders.htm' is not a valid account name.

The server does not require a login, so I don't know why Access is referring
to an account name. Does anyone know what might be going on?

In addition to that general appeal for assistance, I have two specific
questions regarding HTML tables:

1) I have never linked to a file on a web server. The help file claims that
Access can do it, but as far as I know, that is an unfulfilled promise. Has
anyone out there successfully linked to a web HTML table? Can you confirm
that this feature works? Can you give me a URL to a sample file, in case the
problem is with my server?

2) Instead of using the File / Get External Data / Link Tables wizard, I
would like to build the link in code. When I try, however, I get an error
message indicating that I have not properly defined the table fields. Can
anyone point me to some sample code that shows how to link to a HTML table
using code?

Thanks.
