Default Upgrade DB2 v7 -> v8 and new server h/w. Best approach?

DB2 UDB 7.2 WSE
Fixpak 9
Linux Red Hat 7.3

I will soon be upgrading my DB2 v7 database to v8, and at the same
time will be upgrading the server hardware (ie a brand new server).
What is the easiest way to do this?

Can I restore a v7 backup into a v8 install?

TIA

aj

Yes, if they are both Linux (backup and restore). That would be the best
way.

They are both Linux, but the backup will be from Red Hat 7.3 and the
restore will be onto Red Hat Advanced Server 2.1

Does this matter?

thanks

Hello Allen,

Here what would be the best approach (IMHO)

1. Do not upgrade both database and OS - if anything is wrong you'd have to rollback both changes

2. You'd need to run instance update during the migration. Make sure to review DB2 documentation on migration (check Quick Beginnings for DB2 Servers as a start)

Please, let us know if you have any additional question.

Just make sure your Linux distribution is listed at: http://www-306.ibm.com/software/data...inux/validate/
