Health Monitor

Question posted by: Debbie E (Guest) on November 12th, 2005 06:26 AM
I am trying to setup the DB2 Health Monitor and so far I am not
getting any e-mail notifications.

I've done the following:

db2 update dbm cfg using health_mon on

db2 update admin cfg using smtp_server lresa8a002.xxx.yyy.zzz

db2 update notification list add contact debbie

db2 add contact debbie type email address Join Bytes!

db2 update dbm cfg using notifylevel 4

I've stopped and started the instance several times which I believe
would have generated at least some alert e-mails, but so far
nothing...

Any advice on what I am missing would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi Debbie,

Do you have any alert status: db2 get health snapshot for dbm, db2 get
health snapshot for all databases should show some counters in alert/warning
states.

Hth,

Are you on the latest fixpack?

Have you installed and configured an SMTP server?

Eventually a SORT alert was generated and the e-mail notification
worked - so looks like the configuration is good.

I was hoping to get a notification when the instance stopped, but I
think the reason is that the instance got restarted so quickly (via
VCS HA product) and the Health Monitor missed it. We have the same
problem with our Tivoli Alerts - Tivoli misses the fact that the
instance stopped/restarted. Any thoughts on how we can generate some
kind of notification when the DB2 instance terminates..

Thanks again.
